Skimm'ternship of a Lifetime

Hands down, I had never wanted anything more.

I related theSkimm picking interns from their pool of 2,000+ College Skimm’bassadors to how the Jonas Brothers would say in interviews that they would date a fan. I’m sure they would, but the odds of me being that fan were quite slim.

A little over a year ago, I drafted an email to jobs@theskimm.com asking about a summer internship opportunity for the summer of 2015. I wasn't even a Skimm'bassador at the time because getting 10 people to sign up sounded too overwhelming to me.

Before sending the email, I did some quick searching on Google to find more information about their internships. I couldn't find anything except for an article from a past Skimm'tern about his experience. After reading about all this intern had done to get noticed and hired, I was immediately aware that my passion for theSkimm did not measure up. I closed the draft and decided to search for internships elsewhere.

Lucky for me, a lot has changed since then. I became a Skimm'bassador, reached almost 800 sign ups, won second place in the School of Skimm and Skimm Ahead Launch share competitions, and both purposefully and accidentally acted as a walking billboard for theSkimm.

All of a sudden, I took a look at myself and realized that I had developed the passion that I had been lacking before. Not only did I love the product and the direction that they were moving as a company, but I had grown both personal and professionally as a result of theSkimm's existence.

Spoiler alert: I ended up getting the internship and it has been the most incredible experience. I still can't believe yesterday was my last day.

I have learned so much from my two months in that office. Small things like making sure that you always ask for a receipt, double checking an order when picking up lunch, and the difference in price between UPS and USPS.

But I've also learned that it takes grit and passion to get to where you want to go. I learned that when you don't know the answer to something, you don't stop there. Instead, you work to figure it out before coming back with, "I don't know". I learned to make sure that the work I returned was the very best work I could've done. I learned to not let one mistake make you feel like you've failed. And most importantly, when you're surrounded by geniuses, you should spend time with as many of them as you can - You will learn something.

I am forever grateful for this experience and all the ways that theSkimm has impacted my life for the better.
